About the Department

The Department of First Year Engineering is the academic foundation of all engineering programs. It provides an interdisciplinary education that incorporates basic sciences, mathematics, engineering fundamentals and professional skills. Through strong academics, mentoring and co-curricular activities the department strengthens a strong foundation for their chosen engineering specialisation. The department is equipped with modern laboratories, well-designed curricula aligned with NEP-2020 and outcome-based education (OBE) and experienced faculty members. The pedagogy emphasizes conceptual clarity, computational thinking, design orientation, problem-solving abilities, flexibility, experiential learning and holistic development.

  • The department lays the groundwork for all engineering disciplines through a well-structured and comprehensive curriculum.
  • Courses include Basic Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Professional Core Courses, Vocational and Skill Enhancement Courses, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), Ability Enhancement Courses, and Liberal Learning Courses.
  • Internship and Aptitude Development are compulsory, ensuring early industry exposure and skill building.
  • In our department the Qualified Faculty Team includes, Total 18 faculty members, 3 faculties with Ph.D. degrees from reputed universities, and 5 faculty pursuing Ph.D. This academic diversity enhances the quality of teaching and mentoring.
  • Advanced labs such as the Applied Physics Lab, Applied Chemistry Lab, Language Lab, and Computer Programming Lab support hands-on, experiential learning and innovation.
  • Laboratory work enables students to apply fundamental principles, develop creative solutions, and prepare for advanced engineering challenges.
  • Our department includes a Liberal Learning Opportunities via Coding Club, Adventure Club, ATU TechSpeak Hub, Arts & Culture Club, these platforms foster creativity, communication, teamwork, and holistic development.

It gives me immense pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all aspiring engineers to the School of Engineering and Technology, D. Y. Patil Agriculture and Technical University, Talsande, Kolhapur, and to wish them a fruitful, enriching, and memorable academic experience at our institute.

The School offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, CSE with Data Science, Agricultural Engineering, and Food Technology.

The Agricultural Engineering program offers specialized streams in Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Processing and Food Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, and Renewable Energy Engineering.

We are also proud to introduce 6-year Integrated Undergraduate Degree Programs, which provide a seamless and structured academic pathway, fostering strong foundational knowledge, advanced technical expertise, and research orientation.
