Overview, Purpose & Context

The Board of University Teaching and Research is a statutory academic body responsible for planning, regulating, coordinating, and strengthening teaching, training, and research activities of the University. The Board acts as a linking body between academic execution and academic policy, supporting the Academic Council through recommendations based on ground-level academic and research requirements.

The Board also plays a key role in promoting research culture and industry–university interaction.

Functions of the Committee

The Board of University Teaching and Research performs the following key functions:

  • Controls, regulates, and coordinates teaching, training, and research
  • Promotes industry–university interaction
  • Advises on academic and research programmes
  • Facilitates collaboration with other universities and research organisations
  • Supports academic planning through structured recommendations

Duties & Responsibilities

The Board shall exercise the following powers and responsibilities:

  1. Recommend to the Academic Council the conduct of instruction, teaching, training, and research
  2. Recommend to the Academic Council the requirements of teachers in respective subjects
  3. Recognize research guides in accordance with applicable regulations
  4. Determine programmes of instruction, teaching, training, and research
  5. Decide the nature and extent of academic and research work to be undertaken by teachers
  6. Promote and facilitate collaboration and advisory services with external institutions and organisations
  7. Approve subjects for research and other requirements for research degrees

Procedure of Functioning

Meetings

  • The Board shall ordinarily meet twice a year.
  • Additional meetings may be convened if required.

Presiding Authority

  • The Vice-Chancellor shall preside over the meetings.
  • In the absence of the Vice-Chancellor, a Dean nominated by the Vice-Chancellor shall preside.

Decision-Making

  • Decisions and recommendations are made through formal deliberations and recorded in minutes.
  • Recommendations are forwarded to the Academic Council for consideration and approval, wherever required.

Secretariat & Communication

The Registrar, as Member Secretary, is responsible for:

  • Issuing notices and agendas
  • Recording minutes
  • Communicating decisions and recommendations to concerned authorities
