D.Y. Patil Agriculture and Technical University (DYP-ATU) is a private university located in Talsande, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, established by the act of the Government of Maharashtra vide its Act No. XXXVI of 2020, Dated: December 28, 2020, with a vision to provide high-quality education in the fields of agriculture, engineering, management, and allied sciences. It operates under the umbrella of the Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, a well-known name in the field of education in India. After commencement, the university has appointed all its officers in accordance with the provisions of the act. Honourable, Dr. Sanjay D. Patil has been appointed as the Chancellor, Prof. Dr. K. Prathapan has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Dr. Jayendra A. Khot has been appointed as the first Registrar of the DYP-ATU. The abridged information about DYP-ATU, as per the UGC proforma, is provided below in 11 parts (Section A to K).

A. Legal Status:

The university was established through the “D. Y. Patil Agriculture and Technical University, Talsande, Kolhapur Act, 2020” (Maharashtra Act No. XXXVI of 2020). The act received the Governor’s assent and was officially notified on December 28, 2020. DYP‑ATU is classified as a state-private university under Maharashtra law. DYP-ATU is recognized in the official list of private universities in Maharashtra as a state private university. Fully recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), making its degrees valid and nationally accepted. A member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), which ensures the equivalence of degrees across Indian universities.

B. Organization Description:

D. Y. Patil Agriculture and Technical University (DYP-ATU), Talsande, Kolhapur, is unitary in nature, and the jurisdiction of the university is Maharashtra as per the Act of the Government of Maharashtra. The university does not have any constituent units; it has no off-campus or offshore campuses. The university has not offered any distance programme, and it has not established any study centre.

C. Academic Activities Description

Academic Programmes:

DYP-ATU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across multiple disciplines with a focus on agriculture, engineering and technology, and management science. To begin with, DYP-ATU has started three schools, namely, the School of Engineering and Technology, the School of Commerce & Management, and the School of Inter-Disciplinary Studies. Currently, 09 UG, 13 PG, and PhD courses are being offered at DYP-ATU. A total of 2231 UG and 1902 PG students, along with 97 PhD scholars, have been admitted (after dropouts/cancellations) at DYP-ATU during AY 2021-22 to 2024-25. The university is not running any course that is not specified under Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956.

Students’ Enrolment and Student Support:

DYP-ATU emphasizes holistic development, providing students with academic, personal, professional, and emotional support through a range of enrichment programs and services. Students admitted are from within the state and from outside the state, too. In view of the diverse needs of the student’s university has organized bridge courses, remedial courses, and orientation programmes for the concerned students. The university has its dynamic website, which is being updated regularly. The information about the admission procedure, rules, regulations, and facilities available at DYP-ATU is made available on the website for prospective students. The university has also established a grievance redressal mechanism.

Curriculum, Teaching Learning Process/Method, Examination/Evaluation System:

DYP-ATU follows a student-centric, industry-aligned, and outcome-based curriculum aimed at providing experiential learning and developing global competencies. The university has designed an innovative, industry-focused syllabus having inputs from the experts in industries, and it is approved through a formal procedure of approval, i.e., Board of Studies and Academic Council. The curriculum is multidisciplinary and aligned with the national curriculum as per NEP 2020. The university has conducted internal as well as external academic audits. The curriculum has various innovative ways for learning, such as projects, internships, and field training. DYP-ATU follows a transparent, continuous, and outcome-based evaluation system to assess academic performance, practical skills, and applied knowledge of students. There is a provision for continuous internal evaluation. Examiners and paper setter panels are prepared with external experts. The end semester examination results are announced within 30 days from the date of the last paper of that examination. The university prepares an academic calendar and circulates it to the students well in advance before the commencement of each academic year.

D. Admission Process:

The admissions to the various degree programs at DYP-ATU are based on the Government of Maharashtra rules for professional & other educational institutions. DYP-ATU follows the selection of students for admission through their overall academic record, with more weightage for valid scores of national-level entrance tests or state-level entrance tests such as PERA-CET/MHT-CET. The process of admission is notified on the website. Eligibility criteria, fee structure, refund policy, information brochure, and detailed admission process have been made available at the university website.

E. Fee Structure:

Details of the course-wise fee structure are provided on the university website, and no other fee is being charged except the fee declared on the website. The modes of fees are through Online Banking, Cheque, and Demand Draft. The fee is decided by Fix Fixation Committee on the basis of infrastructure, additional teaching provisions, and amenities available on the campus and the staff. No complaints have been received about the fees charged at DYP-ATU. Meritorious students have been given a scholarship through the fee waiver form.

F. Faculty:

Well-qualified faculty have been recruited by following the proper procedure and considering the student-teacher ratio in view of UG & PG courses. The university has a self-appraisal system as per the UGC guidelines. Salary is paid as per the UGC pay scale through the bank. All necessary facilities are provided to faculty members.

G. Infrastructure:

DYP-ATU has state-of-the-art infrastructure with sufficient land, buildings, classrooms, laboratories, and workshops. Also, the university has a well-equipped library with books, reference books, journals, e-journals, references, and research journals. DYP-ATU has developed a comprehensive sports infrastructure to promote physical fitness, team spirit, and overall well-being among students. The university has an open playground for outdoor sports, a basketball court, a tennis court, indoor sports with a Gymnasium, and residential accommodation for boys and girls separately.

H. Financial Viability:

DYP-ATU has created a corpus fund of INR 10 Crores. The financial position of the university is sound and sustainable. Major sources of finance are the fees paid by the students, loans, and support from D. Y. Patil Education Society.

I. Governance System

The university has constituted all statutory bodies and authorities as per the Act and Statutes of “D. Y. Patil Agriculture and Technical University, Talsande, Kolhapur Act, 2020” (Maharashtra Act No. XXXVI of 2020). Meetings of these bodies are conducted regularly, and minutes are maintained. External members, experts, are invited to serve on authorities and committees. The academic audit mechanism provision is also executed to review academic programmes and activities.

J. Research Profile:

As a budding state private agricultural university in Maharashtra, DYP-ATU has adopted its own research policy for strengthening the research profile of the university. All faculty are involved in research activities, teachers have good publications in national and international journals, and some of the faculty have published books and book chapters with national and international publishers.

K. Miscellaneous:

DYP-ATU has appointed an adequate number of non-teaching/ administrative staff/ technical staff as per guidelines for the smooth execution of academic and administrative activities. DYP-ATU has constituted IQAC and already taken the necessary actions for binary accreditation as per the new accreditation system of NAAC.
