Examination System

Examination System

The examination system at DYP-ATU has THREE Components, and the examination system is Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) as mentioned below

FET Evaluation:

In the Faculty Evaluation Test (FET) component, faculty examine and evaluate the students as per the weightage given in the curriculum. The faculty conducts class tests, quizzes, and assignments. The faculty informs at the beginning of the course about the evaluation methods in detail, with a tentative schedule. FET component marks are declared at the end of the instructions. FET is 20% of the total marks for the subject that is assigned to the FET component.

The faculty takes approval from the Head/BOS and uses guidelines before presenting to students at the start of the course. The FET component is for the evaluation during the entire semester of the course and is evaluated progressively as the semester progresses. There will not be retests for the FET component.

MSE Evaluation

In the Mid-Semester Examinations (MSE) component, the department constitutes the Departmental Examination Committee (DEC), headed by the Head as Chairman, and one senior faculty member is a member of DEC. The department conducts Mid-Semester Examinations (MSEs) during the semester. The department conducts MSE based on the syllabus of the I and II units of the respective subject. DEC decides at the beginning of the semester on the syllabus, duration of the test, marks, and number of MSEs to be conducted during the semester. DEC informs the Controller of Examination (COE) about the schedule of MSEs during the semester. Practical Oral Examination (POE) is conducted by DEC with an external examiner. The decision about the external examiner for POE is taken by DEC. Re-tests for MSE are conducted or not to be conducted based on the decision taken in the BOS and Academic Council. MSE is 30% of the total marks for a 1-hour duration.

ESE Evaluation

In the End Semester Evaluation (ESE) component, the university examines and evaluates students’ performance at the end of the semester. End Semester Examination (ESE) is conducted by the Controller of Examination (COE) through the University Examination Committee (UEC) constituted by BOE, where COE acts as the member secretary, and faculty members are nominated by HODs and Deans of Schools. The faculty members are part of DEC. ESE is in the form of a written examination and is based on the syllabus of the remaining Unit No. III to IV of the course syllabi. ESE is conducted at the end of the semester. ESE is 50% of the total marks for a 2-hour duration as per the recommendation from BOS.

Evaluation Procedure

The Controller of Examinations notifies the evaluation procedure to be adopted for the evaluation of various courses from time to time. For the assessment of answer books following process is adopted:

  1. For FET, the respective faculty assesses the class tests, quizzes, and assignments during the semester, and, according to the schedule informed to students, the faculty informs marks to the students.
  2. For MSE, the results of MSEs are displayed within 7 days of the examination of MSE. Assessed answer books are shown to students, and after no queries from students, MSE marks are finalized.
  3. For UE, the Central Assessment Programme (CAP) center evaluates and assesses the answer books of ESE. Provision of moderation is also made for ESE.
  4. For the assessment of answer books for a course, the University Examination Committee (UEC) invites paper setters (internal/external) from the panel of examiners submitted by DEC to assess the answer books.
  5. Only the paper setter for the course assesses the answer books. Examination and assessment work is mandatory. If the paper setter is unable to assess the answer book, the UEC takes the decision on the appointment of the assessor other than the paper setter.

For every course in which a student is registered in a semester, he/she is assigned an alphabetical grade (O, A+, A, B+, B, C, P, Ab, X) based on his/her combined performance in all components of evaluation.

The absolute grading system is followed. Every Grade is associated with Grade Points (10-1 scale). The following table lists the grade points associated with letter grades
